Our Impact

Translational science at Florida State University engages communities in developing and testing biobehavioral interventions across the translational spectrum to address sociocultural determinants of health.

Be Part of the Solution: Participate in Research

Researchers at Florida State University conduct many types of studies, including clinical trials. Some focus on certain health conditions, while others need healthy volunteers. We invite you to learn about CTSA studies currently recruiting participants!

CTSA's 2026-2028 Scholars Announced
The UF+FSU Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) is proud to announce the appointment of two new career development awardees, Drs. Amber DeJohn and Val Wongsomboon.
Dr. Amber DeJohn was awarded the NIH/NCATS-funded K12 Multidisciplinary Program Career Development Award for her project titled “Disentangling Mobility, Cognitive Function, and Digital Behaviors to Understand Social Isolation and Dementia Risk.” Her project aims to identify patterns of physical and digital social engagement and examine their associations with baseline cognitive function to answer the question, “Does digital social engagement mitigate social isolation or reinforce withdrawal from in-person social environments?”
Dr. Val Wongsomboon was awarded a College-sponsored CTSA Career Development Award for her project titled “Development and Feasibility Testing of a Brief AI Literacy Intervention to Improve Help-Seeking and Mental Health Outcomes in Adolescents.” Her project aims to develop and pilot test an intervention on AI digital literacy to teach adolescents about AI limitations for emotional support and help them build help-seeking skills. The goal is this intervention is to build help-seeking behaviors among vulnerable adolescents and prevent the escalation of depressive symptoms. The CTSA K2R Scholar Program is designed to create a community of early career faculty and mentors who work together to submit high-impact translational science career development and research proposals to set FSU’s investigators on a path to independence.
Dr. Zhe He Recipient of FSU Graduate Faculty Mentor Award
The CTSA is excited to celebrate the Co-Director of the CTSA's Biostatistics, Informatics, and Research Design (BIRD) Program, Dr. Zhe He, who received one of FSU's Graduate Faculty Mentor Awards for his significant impact on the work of FSU graduate students!
Nominator statement: “Dr. He demonstrates an exceptional and sustained commitment to graduate mentoring. His mentoring style is rigorous, structured and deeply supportive. Through regular one-on-one meetings, he provides detailed methodological feedback, challenges assumptions constructively and emphasizes clinical relevance, ethical responsibility and real-world impact.”

CTSA Cores
Biostatistics, Informatics, and Research Design (BIRD) Core
The BIRD Core provides a central location to access support and consulting services related to human health data science, informatics, and clinical and translational research design.
Our vision is to equip clinical and translational researchers with new capabilities to answer questions that cannot be answered today.

Community Engagement Core
The Community Engagement Core created educational programs based on what the community needs.
These programs aim to strengthen the community's role in research, share important resources, and provide helpful health information.

Dissemination and Implementation Science Core (DISC)
DISC bridges the critical gap between scientific discovery and real-world application, ensuring that research findings are shared beyond academic journals and effectively translated into practices that meaningfully improve health, education, and social well-being in our communities.

K2R Scholar Program
The K2R Scholar Program is designed to create a community of early career faculty and mentors who work together to submit high-impact translational science career development and research proposals to set FSU's investigators on a path to independence.

Translational Workforce Development (TWD) Core
The TWD Core trains and equips academic professionals with the skills, knowledge, and resources needed to translate scientific discoveries into practical applications that improve health, technology, and industry outcomes.
